Occupational health
We recognize that occupational health in construction is essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of our team members in a naturally demanding environment. Our Occupational Health, Environmental, and Risk Management Policy reflects our commitment to environmental protection, workplace risk prevention, and the continuous improvement of our processes. We apply a preventive approach that promotes efficient resource use, risk reduction, and hazard elimination. We comply with all legal and regulatory requirements and foster a culture of prevention and active participation—one that also engages suppliers and stakeholders—to build a safer, more sustainable, and responsible operation.

Through the reduction of our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, we work every day to develop more efficient, responsible, and environmentally friendly projects. This commitment is reflected in our results: in 2025, we received the Carbon Reduction Certification, a milestone that reaffirms our dedication to continuous improvement and our active contribution to the fight against climate change.
Blue Flag Certification
This recognition, granted by Costa Rica’s Ecological Blue Flag Program in the Climate Change category, acknowledges Pavicen’s efforts in implementing sustainable practices that help mitigate the effects of climate change. Valid from June 2025 to June 2026, this distinction highlights our responsible environmental management and the positive impact we generate at educational and cultural levels. The award underscores our organization’s commitment to socioeconomic and environmental criteria that promote sustainable development and resilience in the face of climate risks.
Management of plastic
In the last 2 years we have incorporated more than 40,000kg of recycled plastic into our asphalt mix in various projects across the country, an amount equivalent to 1,500,000 bottles of 600ml.
Roads with plastic
We have collaborated with Ernesto Villegas, an engineer graduated from the University of Costa Rica, to achieve a significant milestone for the educational institution: the construction of the first road section within the University, using an innovative combination of asphalt and recycled plastic, known as "Green Asphalt." This accomplishment marks a turning point in Costa Rica's road industry, as we become pioneers in integrating 1% recycled PET plastic into the asphalt mix for road paving. More than just a construction project, this initiative embodies a vision of a circular economy, where active customer engagement is combined with rigorous technical development, resulting in a product that can be replicated on a large scale. This project not only represents progress in terms of environmental sustainability but also sets a model for future infrastructure initiatives in Costa Rica and beyond.
Strategic alliance with ecoins
The 1% that makes a difference in the environment! After rigorous laboratory testing, we have discovered that even a modest 1% of recycled plastic in the asphalt mix does not compromise the quality, durability, or integrity of our roads at all. This revelation is not only a milestone in Costa Rican road engineering but also marks a crucial moment in our sustainability mission. Through a strategic partnership with ecoins, we have secured the supply of recycled plastic necessary to enhance our asphalt mixtures, thus contributing to closing the life cycle of this material. The potential impact of this collaboration transcends the roads. By repurposing recovered plastics in the construction of our highways, we are paving the way toward a more sustainable future. This is a step forward in our collective quest for a cleaner and more prosperous tomorrow for future generations. Together, we are making a difference, one percent at a time.
